Meet Keshia Lockett –
Founder & Lead Instructor

For the past seven years, I’ve dedicated my work to uplifting, educating, and advocating for Black birthing families. As a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and business owner, my passion extends beyond birth, it’s about community, empowerment, and access to quality care.
​
Through Empowered Black Doula, I’ve supported families, trained aspiring doulas, and created resources to make birth education more accessible. I’ve also spoken at community events, hosted workshops, and participated in panels focused on birth equity and reproductive justice.
​
In 2023, I launched The Black Doula Tour, connecting with birth workers nationwide to share knowledge and amplify Black doulas’ voices. Whether through mentorship, education, or business coaching, I remain committed to helping doulas build sustainable businesses while serving their communities.

Now, I’m expanding my impact through digital education, training programs, and community initiatives that empower birth workers everywhere. Birth work isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am.

Meet Talena
Instructor / Faculty Instructor

My name is Talena, and I am a Certified Birth Doula and Trained Postpartum Doula based in Jacksonville, FL.
​
Since 2019, I have had the honor of serving families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum journey, supporting nearly 150 births along the way. My path into birth work began right out of high school, and while completing my college degree, I poured myself into doula care. This combination of academic focus and hands-on experience has shaped me into both a skilled professional and a passionate advocate for families.

Over the years, I’ve supported diverse families with a wide range of needs and experiences, continuously expanding my knowledge, refining comfort measures, and strengthening advocacy and emotional support techniques. For me, birth work is not just a career, it is truly my calling.

Now, as an instructor with Empowered Doula Training, I am excited to share my experience and passion with future doulas. My goal is to equip new birth professionals with the skills, confidence, and compassion needed to walk alongside families during one of life’s most transformative journeys.
